Thanks to the side weir enough water can be diverted from the river Reuss to be fed to the turbine through the head race channel Four sluice gates controle the water flow  of the headrace channel. In front of the turbine, the turbine sluice gate ensures the inflow of water to the water chamber. When the turbine is in operation, the sluice is closed. As with the head race channel, the tailrace channel is an artificial channel that flows into the river Reuss.
